Poorly managed peripheral sensitivity disorders can lead to various complications, including foot amputation. Buerger Allen Exercise (BAE) and diabetic foot exercises were proved to give good effects on ABI. However, there were no studies which combine both exercises yet. This study aimed to determine the impacts of the combination of BAE therapy and diabetic foot exercises on the increase of ABI value of diabetic patients. This study used a quasi-experimental approach with pre-test and post-test. The sampling technique was purposive with the total size of 57 respondents, including 19 individuals in the BAE and foot exercise intervention group, 19 individuals in BAE group (control 1), and 19 individuals in foot exercises group (control 2). The analysis results indicated a significant difference between the intervention group’s ABI value and both control gorups (p-value 0.001). This study noted that diabetic patients at Sawah Lebar Public Health Center in Bengkulu City had a higher ABI value when BAE therapy and diabetic foot exercises were combined.
Hendri Heriyanto Septiyanti Septiyanti Rina Delfina Copyright (c) 2024 Faletehan Health Journal 2024-03-14 2024-03-14 11 01 16 22 10.33746/fhj.v11i01.643 The Relationship between Knowledge and Attitudes with Nurse Behavior in Patient Discharge Planning https://journal.lppm-stikesfa.ac.id/index.php/FHJ/article/view/691
Patient discharge planning is a crucial aspect of healthcare, yet the implementation in hospitals was not optimal by nursing teams. Patients’ expectation when choosing health services was the ability of health staff to respond quickly to patient complaints and to deal with them in a professional manner. The research objective was to determine the relationship between nurse interpersonal communication and patient satisfaction at Pontang Community Health Center in 2023. The correlation method with a cross-sectional approach was used in this research. Of the 150 inpatients as a population, 75 respondents were involved as the samples by Solvin formula. The data collection was done by interviews, observations, and a questionnaire. The research results showed that the majority of respondents stated that the interpersonal communication of nurses was good (62.7%) and the majority of respondents stated that patient satisfaction in the inpatient unit was not satisfied (54.7%). The statistical test results by using chi-square test obtained a p-value of 0.024 (p<α), which means that there was a relationship between nurse interpersonal communication and patient satisfaction at the inpatient unit of Pontang Community Health Center. The researchers concluded that there was a need of reinforcement in inpatient nurses, such as training on interpersonal communication and service excellence.
Dedeh Hamdiah Agung Budiyanto Copyright (c) 2024 Faletehan Health Journal 2024-03-19 2024-03-19 11 01 39 44 10.33746/fhj.v11i01.684 Self-Management Education Among Patients with Diabetes Mellitus https://journal.lppm-stikesfa.ac.id/index.php/FHJ/article/view/679
Diabetes self-management education (DSME) integrates four aspects of diabetes management with an emphasis on behavioral interventions that assist individuals with diabetes in adopting lifestyle changes for their self-care from the desease. DSME encompasses diets, exercises, treatments, and exercise schedules for patients with diabetes, aiming to enhance patients' ability to self-care. This study aimed to assess the effects of DSME on the self-care of patients with diabetes by using a booklet medium at Purwokerto Islamic Hospital. This quantitative research employed a quasi experimental design with a control group pre-post test design and gave a booklet media to the intervention group. This research involved 32 randomly selected respondents who were divided into control and intervention group. The statistical analysis used an independent t-test and showed a significant difference in the care of patients with diabetes (p=0.00<0.05) between the two groups. Following DSME intervention, 75% respondents in the intervention group exhibited a good self-care behavior; meanwhile, the control group was just 56%. The statistical analysis showed a difference in the self-care mean of the intervention group, which improved meaningfully (p-value 0.01); however, the control group was unmeaningful (p-value 0.06). This research showed DSME is able to improve the self-care of patients with diabetes mellitus.
Etlidawati Etlidawati Muhammad Fadhol Romdhoni Diyah Yulistika Kris Linggardini Copyright (c) 2024 Faletehan Health Journal 2024-03-19 2024-03-19 11 01 45 50 10.33746/fhj.v11i01.679 The Influence of BagaPule Therapy on Reducing Headaches in Elders with Hypertension https://journal.lppm-stikesfa.ac.id/index.php/FHJ/article/view/629
Headache is a problem complained by 20% of hypertensive patients. The pain can cause various effects ranging from mild discomfort to disrupting quality of life. BagaPule therapy is a combination of warm compress and massage on the gate of consciousness points, one of the non-pharmacological ways to reduce headaches. Hypertensive patients will feel a warm sensation in the neck to the head area after applying warm compresses. This study aimed to examine the influence of BagaPule therapy administration to reduce headaches in elderly patients with hypertension in Lhok Bengkuang, Aceh. The research design used in this study was quasi-experimental with equivalent control group design. The participants of this study were all elders suffering from hypertension, with the total of 36 participants selected by using simple random sampling technique. The statistical analysis was conducted by using Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney test. The results of univariate analysis in the control group showed that the majority of elderly headache levels were categorized as moderate with 12 respondents (48%) and the intervention group showed that the majority of elderly headache levels were categorized as moderate with 14 respondents (51.9%). The bivariate analysis results showed that there was an influence of BagaPule therapy on reducing headaches in elderly patients with hypertension (p-value 0.032). The sample of 38 participants was selected through consecutive sampling, which 19 individuals assigned to the intervention group receiving an Islamic mindfulness program consisting of meditation exercises and Islamic reflection, while the remaining 19 individuals formed the control group receiving standard care. Nausea intensity was measured using the Index Nausea Vomiting and Retching (INVR) scale before and after the intervention. The results demonstrated that the intervention group experienced a significantly greater reduction in nausea intensity compared to the control group (p<0.0001), with a Cohen's-d effect size of 2.04.
